ASN: Southland's Abilene Christian Football Slated for Sunday

San Antonio, TX - The Abilene Christian University Wildcats' game against Incarnate Word (UIW) was washed out on Saturday due to heavy rain throughout much of Texas, including San Antonio. The contest is scheduled for 2 PM CT on Sunday at UIW's Benson Stadium. It is the first time in over half a century that ACU has had a game postponed.

When the Wildcats (2-4) take the field, redshirt junior quarterback Parker McKenzie will spend time under center and will try to duplicate last year's effort in a 21-0 over the Cardinals (3-3). The American Sports Network  was scheduled to cover the game today but will not be broadcasting Sunday's rescheduling. I had the opportunity to speak with McKenzie this week about the upcoming Southland Conference game and the long tradition of ACU winning football. - TF

Southland Conference Women's Soccer Report

Southeastern Louisiana is 9-4 in the SLC (Photo / SLU.com)
Hammond, LA - Writing for the American Sports Network, I've become much more familiar with the Southland Conference (SLC). It's an outstanding Division I conference based primarily in Louisiana and Texas with one representative in Arkansas.

While its football has a well-known history and merits the most ink each fall, the Southland is home to some of the country's top women's soccer talent. The Southeastern La. Lions women's soccer team is one of the conference's best units. At 9-4 and in fourth place in the 12-team circuit, they're looking to bounce back after falling to league-leading Stephen F. Austin yesterday.

Maddie Kresevic (pictured above) is one of a handful of talented midfielders for the Lions. This Friday they face Central Arkansas (6-9-1, 3-4-1) in Hammond. The game is an opportunity to put some distance between the Lions and the league's midpack. Canadian Hope Sabadash is a top SLC talent in goal for the Lions and will be critical down the stretch for Southeastern. - TF

Montreat Cavs Lacrosse Preps for Year Two

Montreat battles Michigan-Dearborn for a groundball (photo / M.C. Athletics)
Montreat, NC - UNC and Duke are fixtures in the NCAA's upper echelon of men's lacrosse. In North Carolina's western reaches, the game is increasingly taking root, including in the Black Mountain region just east of Asheville on the campus of Montreat College. Montreat's lacrosse program is in its second year of existence as an NAIA entry and if their coach's past is any indication, they are poised for rapid ascension in the ranks of small college lacrosse. - TF

ASN: SFA Women's Tennis Heading North in Southland

Nancogdoches, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University (SFA) lost a rising coach this summer to UTEP, and replaced him with another. Lumberjacks' coach Jon McLaughlin arrived from Tulane and quickly had the program heading back to the upper echelon of the competitive Southland Conference. - TF
