College Park, MD - Maryland's Mike Shawaryn affirmed his place as the nation's top college pitcher with a 2-1 victory over Cal State Fullerton on Friday night. The sophomore from Carney's Point, New Jersey struck out 13 through eight innings without allowing a run. He yielded only four hits while raising his nation's best record to a perfect 9-0.

The Terps were limited to four hits and no earned runs against outstanding pitching from Cal State Fullerton's Thomas Eshelman (3-5), but pushed Jose Cuas and Anthony Papio across the plate and played errorless baseball in the field.

The #22 Terrapins improved to 26-10 while Cal State Fullerton fell to 19-17 on the season. The two play again on Saturday and Sunday, both at Shipley Field.
