Baltimore - At a brisk and windy Ridley Athletic Complex the Loyola Greyhounds defeated the #22 Penn State Nittany Lions, 8-6, this past Saturday. Loyola (1-1) launched 50 shots and moved to the #8 spot overall in the polls following the victory. Zach Herreweyers buried three goals for the host Greyhounds and goalie Pat McEnerney (Good Counsel) earned his first career victory.
Penn State departed Baltimore with an identical 1-1 mark.
Loyola followed up the victory with a mid-week win over #14 Towson (1-1), 15-11, on the road at Johnny Unitas Stadium. Towson's Spencer Parks (St. Paul's) had a game-high seven points as Towson fell to 1-1. The Greyhounds received five goals from Zach Herreweyers who now owns 11 on the season and earned their second victory of the year.
Just over 90 miles to the north, the #5 Johns Hopkins Blue Jays (2-1) beat Villanova, 13-10, in heavy snow at Villanova Stadium. It was the first game of the season for the Wildcats (0-1). Junior Ryan Brown continues to excel on attack, scoring four goals despite the conditions.
