Maryland looks to upend Clemson this weekend (Photo / umterps.com)
Despite dimming significantly from a 4-0 start, the Maryland Terrapins' season still retains some of if its initial potential. Out of the gate at 5-2, the team sandwiched an important conference win over Virginia (2-5) in between disappointing losses to Florida State (6-0) and Wake Forest (4-3).
The Terps face another stiff test this weekend when they travel to face Clemson (6-1). Clemson dropped a 51-14 decision to Florida State last weekend in a battle between ACC unbeatens. The Tigers are considered roughly two touchdown favorites going into the game.
Like Maryland, Navy has struggled after early season success. The Mids stand at 3-3 through six games, after starting the season at 2-0. Importantly, one of the three victories came against Air Force (1-6), which keeps them on track for a shot at the Commander-in-Chief's trophy as the best of the service academy teams.
Keenan Reynolds has been exceptional in running the triple option. The sophomore signal caller from Antioch, Tennessee leads the team in both rushing and passing. He has rushed for ten touchdowns and thrown for three more while totaling over 1,000 combined yards on offense. The Mids host Pittsburgh (4-2) this weekend in Annapolis.
Notre Dame (5-2) held off a good USC (4-3) team last weekend in South Bend to keep on an outside track for a quality bowl game. The Irish will face Air Force at Colorado Springs on Saturday. Last year the Irish went 12-0 in the regular season to gain entry in the National Championship Game before bowing to Alabama.
