College Baseball: Grays Battle Rain, Cardinals, for 5-4 Win

On Thursday evening, under an increasingly steady downpour, the Baltimore Presstman Cardinals opened their inaugural season in the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League (CRBCL) at DC's Hoy Field.

The host Grays spoiled the Cardinals' debut with a 5-4 victory, as starter Henry Sisson (North Carolina) yielded three runs through six innings. Yahya Muhammad (Coppin State) gave up one run on a pair of walks and a base hit in the top of the ninth, but held on for the save.

"We've got a young team, and some junior college players," said Cardinals' coach Reggie Smith after the game. "This is high level competition and good experience for them."

The Cardinals host the Baltimore Redbirds at Joe Cannon Stadium in Hanover, Maryland on Saturday after a Friday night rain out. The Grays host the Herndon Braves this evening at 5 PM.
