Navy (14-18) baseball is off to a slow start in Patriot League play, standing at 2-6 after eight games. They were swept in their Patriot League-opening series to Army, and followed up with a split at Bucknell. Both Bucknell and Army are typically among the upper tier in the league, so the Mids' mark may be as indicative of a front-loaded schedule as overall strength in the Patriot.
The Black Knights (24-8, 8-0) in particular may have one of their best teams in recent years, and are led by junior right-hander Chris Rowley. Rowley to date is 7-0 in eight starts, and ranks second nationally in wins. His 1.20 ERA ranks him 13th in the country. On March 31 he spun a one-hitter in Annapolis en route to a 2-0 victory over Navy ace Ben Nelson.
